MILLIONS TAUGHT: In early 2011, Mason posted a few physics instructional videos on YouTube for his students at Henry Ford Community College. These poorly produced videos show him lecturing to the camera in front of a whiteboard. The unintended and surprising popularity of these videos prompted Mason to investigate the utility of online video for educational purposes. A year later, the Teach Me series (pen-and-paper videos using voice-overs) was born. Since its inception, the Teach Me series has upgraded from a flip video camera to an SLR, incorporated professional lighting, and garnered over two million views. "One of the most rewarding aspects of making these videos," he reflects, "is receiving comments and suggestions from people from all over the world." At the moment, Mason is cherry-picking topics to cover in his videos - each takes around 100 hours to produce - but one day he hopes to have enough material to cobble together an entire curriculum with which students can teach themselves the basics of physics. Mason also continues to post other YouTube videos of interest, e.g., a video of a friend's song played through a Ruben's Tube.

Rubens' Tube Music - Gliese 581D by Andrew Kratzat
The bassist in Millish wrote this beautiful song about the possibility of colonizing Gliese 581D shortly after its discovery. Science fiction songs like his deserve to go up in flames.
